In Hindsight
Pantoum
The days go by
Quickly, quickly. One after another.
The weather may differ
But time goes on the same.
Quickly, quickly, one day after another
Without a single moment of respite
time goes on the same.
Look— See how the time has gone by
Without a single moment of respite.
Day by day the changes are small, but
Look— the time has gone by:
The me of today is not the me of yesterday.
Day by day, the changes have been small—
Hard to see without the gift of hindsight.
But the me of today is different than the me of yesterday
And I don’t know how that came to be.
It’s plain to see that, with the gift of hindsight,
Although the weather has differed
And I don’t quite know how I came to be,
But the days have certainly gone by and shaped me.
